Large bowel obstruction resulting from bladder transitional cell carcinoma metastasis: a common cancer presenting in an uncommon manner

چکیده
Transitional cell carcinoma (TCC) and large bowel obstructions are both common disease processes typically considered unrelated. Presented below is the case of a 49-year-old male with a large bowel obstruction caused by a bladder TCC metastasis. One year prior to large bowel obstruction presentation, the patient had a T2, Grade III TCC of the bladder with no nodal involvement or metastasis, which was removed via radical cystoprostatectomy. This case serves as a reminder that cancer, despite common pathogenesis patterns, can present in atypical ways.

متن کاملSarcomatoid bladder carcinoma: A rare metastatic disease of small bowel
Introduction: Small bowel obstruction secondary to metastatic disease is a rare presentation with most current evidence being limited to case reports. Previous evidence described breast, lung and melanoma as the most common underlying primaries presenting with this entity. Bladder carcinoma rarely metastasizes to the gastrointestinal tract, and if present, does not typically cause small bowel o...

Background and Aims: Immunohistochemical tests are one of the most important tests, which are under study to determine the prognosis of the cancers such as transitional cell carcinoma. By the time, flexible cystoscopy and urine cytology are the routine tests for following up the patients with transitional cell carcinoma, which are both operator dependent. On the other hand, cystoscopy is an inv...

Introduction: Transitional cell carcinomas (TCC) of the upper urinary tract constitute only 7% of urothelial carcinomas. The majority of upper urinary tract TCC arises from the renal pelvis, followed by the ureter. The majority of the patients are presented with microscopic or macroscopic haematuria, flank pain, or symptoms due to metastasis; however, it can be asymptomatic in 10-15%. Case pre...
